Barney
Weinstein founded Bass in 1970 as a retail
mail order company specializing in marine lighting.
Over the next few years, Bass expanded to serve
recreational boating manufacturers with lights
of its own manufacture and many kinds of interior
and exterior lights from domestic and international
suppliers. In 1978, we saw an opportunity to
enter the electrical panel business with a
high-grade line of aluminum panels featuring
advanced styling, graphics and engineering.
In the early '80s we phased out marine lighting
and focused our efforts intensively on electrical
panels used for power distribution on boats
and specialty vehicles. We introduced the first
waterproof, backlit circuit breaker panel.
This panel was capable of working continuously
in flooded sailboat cockpits.
Over
the next several years, Bass was first to introduce
panels with:
- LED
indicator lights
- Self-stick
interchangeable nameplates recessed into
the panel surface
- Backlit
nameplates
- Slip-on
copper bus bars
- Circuit
breakers with flat bus terminals
- Circuit
breakers with a combination quick-connect
and screw terminal
- Angled
line and load terminals for easy wiring access
- Backlit
analog meters
- A
full line of matched digital Volt, Amp and
Frequency meters
- Miniature
in-line ammeter transformers rated up to
100 Amps
- High
Amp bus bar connectors
- Breaker-independent
mechanical interlocks for source selection
and over-current selection
- Interchangeable
labels in English, French and German
- A
bus-mounted in-line shunt
Bass
was first to introduce CAD-designed panels
and CAD-generated worksheets for specifying
panel configurations. All Bass panels are made
from the highest quality aluminum for strength
and durability. Bass panels receive a four-part
paint process that ensures a quality finish.
